Radiator & Cooling Parts

When your Acura engine runs, it generates a lot of heat. Too much, and it'll overheat, if it doesn't quit working altogether. Engine coolant absorbs most of that heat, but it's your factory Acura radiator that dissipates it best. Radiators work in stages. First, coolant flows from an inlet to an outlet, compressed as it does by a pressure cap. This maximizes heat absorption. Flat, fin-style aluminum tubes expel the heat, and a fan disperses it into the air nearby. Some OEM Acura radiators also feature extra fins, called turbulators. They scatter heat even better. If your radiator has side-mounted tanks, they're called transmission coolers. These shunt the heat of transmission operation to engine coolant instead of diffusing it into the air, helping your transmission work better. Unfortunately, even original Acura radiators can start to have problems eventually. Signs yours is failing or bad include weird engine noises, a sweet, syrupy ethylene glycol smell, discolored coolant, coolant turned to sludge, antifreeze leaks, HVAC malfunctions, and high temperature gauge readings. Trouble shifting is a symptom your transmission cooler might be bad. Check the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual if you think you're due for a radiator change.
